One Particular Harbour

One Particular Harbour

But there’s this one particular harbour
So far but yet so near
Where I see the days as they fade away
And finally disappear
But now I think about the good times
Down in the caribbean sunshine
In my younger days I was so bad
Laughin’ about all the fun we had
I seen enough to feel the world spin
Mixin’ different oceans meetin’ cousins
Listen to the drummers and the night sounds
Listen to the singers make the world go ’round

-Jimmy Buffett, “One Particular Harbour”
Music is a very powerful form of communication, as many people can connect with the lyrics of a certain song.  The song “One Particular Harbour” has a special meaning to me, especially during the winter months.
“One Particular Harbour” represents Cedar Point Marina, the place where I spend the majority of my summers.  During the winter, the Cedar Point Marina seems far away since the weather is cold and snowy, even though it is actually only a forty-five minute drive.  I remember on all the fun I had with my friends and slowly watch these days end during fall.  As winter approaches many of my friends start to stay home on weekends as they get caught up in their normal lives and forget about all the good times.  This song also triggers my memories of the night, as Cedar Point gains a different atmosphere.  I remember some of the songs played at night, especially one, “Everglade Run” by Yanni.  This song is played nightly during summer directly after the Summer Spectacular, a nightly show of lights, lasers, and fireworks.  I remember walking my dog, being with friends, and just sitting on my boat enjoying the times.  However, now since summer is ending I am forced to move on with more things and society pressures me to forget these memories.
The song “One Particular Harbour” has a significant meaning to me.  Without this song, I do not believe I would have the mental connection to recall all of my memories of summer.
